Leadership Development
Enabling more effective leadership behaviours by developing individuals'
self-awareness of their impact and by enhancing 'soft' skills
My approach involves using psychological expertise and practitioner skills to enable
individual leaders to effect the changes that they, and their
organisations, are looking for. My professional background helps
me to understand what is needed for people to achieve sustainable,
personal change. So I focus on creating the right combination of
environment, experiences and learning processes, to bring about change.
I don't assume that simply exposing people to new ideas is sufficient; I
give equal priority to generating the high level of clarity and
commitment required from participants to see a return on investment,
back in the workplace. Without this obsession for translating
learning into practice, I fear many organisations are wasting their
money on expensive, yet ineffective, development interventions.
I recognise that people have different learning styles, and I take this into account in
how I design workshops and programmes. In terms of leadership
development I have found that events that include a significant
element or practical, or experiential, work are particularly effective,
so this is a design feature that I include wherever possible.
